According to Italian journalist Matteo Moretto, speaking on Fabrizio Romano’s Italian-language video podcast, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis is determined to retain sporting director Giovanni Manna for at least one more year, despite strong interest from Roma.

The Friedkin family, who recently completed their takeover of Roma, have identified Manna as their top target for the sporting director role. However, the situation is more complicated than a simple transfer, as Manna has a contract with Napoli that runs until 2027. Any move would require De Laurentiis’ approval.

Moretto reports that the chances of Manna joining Roma have significantly decreased in recent weeks. The core reason is De Laurentiis’ firm stance and Napoli’s clear intention to keep the director, who is heavily involved in transfer decisions and squad planning. Even if Roma were willing to pay a compensation fee, it now appears unlikely that Napoli would let him go.

“I remember correctly, Manna’s contract is until 2027. Regardless, the possibility of Roma signing him has dropped considerably. Even though the Friedkin family really wants him, sometimes desire isn’t enough, even if they’re willing to pay a buyout,” Moretto noted.

De Laurentiis has made his position clear internally: he wants to keep Manna for at least another year, and will not entertain any offers. Whether the situation evolves remains to be seen, but for now, Napoli are standing firm.
