Martín Casillas, the son of Iker Casillas, has been making waves in the Liga Futures with Real Madrid.
Martín Casillas Carbonero is increasingly showing similarities to his father, Iker Casillas, the legendary Real Madrid goalkeeper. Currently playing as a goalkeeper in La Fábrica, the youth academy of the white club, Martín represents the Alevín A team (under-12 category). The young footballer has been with Real Madrid since 2022, when he arrived from Pozuelo. Born in 2014, he is the first of the two children Casillas had with journalist Sara Carbonero before their separation in 2021. His younger brother, Lucas, is 10 years old.
In a recent interview with journalist José Ramón de la Morena, Martín expressed his gratitude for his family’s support, highlighting his father’s influence on his development both on and off the pitch. “I am very grateful and very happy to have my father at home. I am proud of him, of everything he has achieved, and he gives me advice that really helps me,” the young goalkeeper said naturally in one of his first interviews.
Iker Casillas focuses on his mentality. One of the key messages he passes on to his son is about attitude. “My father always tells me that humility is the most important thing,” Martín noted, an lesson he tries to apply daily as a young athlete. He also receives specific advice about his position in goal, especially during penalty situations. “He always tells me that if I have to dive to one side, to do it well, without hesitation,” Martín explained.
Iker Casillas also stresses the importance of decisiveness and intensity in the game. “He tells me not to stop halfway—if I have to go out strong, go out strong,” Martín added alongside de la Morena. His father, recalling his own experience facing penalties, said: “Over the years, facing so many penalties from players of Atlético de Madrid and FC Barcelona, I sometimes go with their patterns. I have no tricks; I dive to the side I think and hope to save it.”
At just 12 years old, Martín is already considered one of the promising talents in Real Madrid’s youth system, noted for his reflexes and bravery.
